Joaquin Baca was born and raised in the Denver metro area. He earned his bachelor’ degree, in
Kinesiology, from the
University of Colorado at Boulder. While attending classes at CU, Joaquin was employed as a certified personal trainer.
Joaquin began his martial arts training while in college. He earned a
black belt in Kung Fu San Soo from Brynn Stephens. While studying under
Mr. Stephens, he was often entrusted with teaching the children and
adult classes.
After college, Joaquin began a career as a
police officer. He has received extensive training in
arrest control, self-defense, defensive tactics, baton techniques, and law enforcement ground tactics. Joaquin is currently and instructor in all of the aforementioned skill areas; and, also directs the
Lakewood Police Department police academy physical training program.
Joaquin currently studies
Mixed Martial Arts including Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling, Muay Thai Kickboxing, and Boxing under the instruction of
Brad Gumm. He is currently a
Purple Belt. In the past he has studied Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under
Shane Pitts, Shane Colburn, and
David Ruiz. He has also trained in Muay Thai Kickboxing under
Oscar Martinez.
Joaquin helps teach some of the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes offered here at
Gumm Mixed Martial Arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as well as the physically challenging
Conditioning Class offered Monday through Friday mornings.
